Today, we are so lucky to have 🎵 a little bit of Monica in our life 🎵 ~ as that’s who we’re getting to knowmade!
Monica’s a staple at keeping the data flowing, but in an organised and surprisingly aesthetically pleasing way. She helps Amir maintain our live service plans, and keeps morale sky high with her positivity and belief in everyone. A real unsung hero round here, so let’s celebrate her right now!
Welcome, Monica! What is it you do at Glowmade?
As Product Analyst, I take care of analytics, data pipelines, surveys and tests, and help think about measuring all our meta-y numbers and whatever else Glowmade might need to succeed in making our game make sense.
Now how would your parents describe your job?
Technology. Data. Technology and data.
How did you get to this point in your career?
After working in many boring fields, I was looking to work in a place where I could have fun, be proud of my job - somewhere I didn’t have to worry on wearing high heels or not being myself. I built this leverage over the years and I am so happy that my past self worked hard to a point where I could choose where I want to work. Glowmade is everything I was looking for.
What made you want to pursue games?
Well, I never thought games industry was for me until I saw a LinkedIn job posting. I searched more about Glowmade and for the first time I saw games as a real opportunity. At first I thought this was something only for devs or people that were really engaged with games, like were born for it. I’ve been playing video games since I was a kid but I never contemplated it as a job, maybe because I thought the area was so masculine and tech-oriented that my skills as a Sociologist wouldn’t serve! Glad I was wrong!

Handstands, balancing on things, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, swimming on the beach…

Who or what inspires you?
Overcoming fear; believing in myself; believing the process; being open to whatever life has for me.
Share something you appreciate about yourself. Give yaself a pat on the back, why don’t ya?
I am very disciplined and persistent.
But that’s not natural - I had to build these qualities over the years and it wasn’t easy! I was a person who gave up easy on things when they got hard and I knew I had to change that, so I did.

What's the best thing about working at Glowmade?
Besides working with amazing people in a healthy and fun environment, I would say being able to have ownership of my processes - to have freedom to build things, give opinions, test, make mistakes and always have room to improve my work and myself.
Anyone on the team who stands out as a role model, or source of inspiration, perhaps?
Amir is one of the most intelligent people I know in any company. He knows so much yet he’s so fun and humble!
And Daisy - her attitude inspires me a lot. She deals with the projects and the people with so much kindness, yet she has a nerve that is so needed when you are in a position like this.
What do you want from your career? Any goals you’re looking forward to surpassing?
I always prefered to think more about making impact rather than escalate a corporate ladder and obstaining new titles. Of course this is a consequence of dedication and a good job, but I prefer to prioritze working in a place where I can have a good balance with the other things I do in my life, the other aspects of myself.
The thing I want most for my career is to be happy and satisfied where I am, in a place that has challenges, space to grow but also allows me to grow in other parts of my life too.
What are your top tips for someone looking to get into games?
Don’t think you don’t fit only because you are not a gamer or never had much contact with the games industry before. All skills are welcomed, and in fact much praised when it comes to new perceptions over a particular game. The game industry is changing for good :)
In your opinion, who is the cutest Glowmade pet?
OMG that should be my cats, Miguel and Sheela!!
