Getting to Knowmade: Beth Coxon, Associate Producer
We love all our talented little glowbugs here, but rolling along today is one who is simply the beth-st. Her pun, not ours - though it does always make us smile.
Meet Beth - a vital member of the team who keeps all our cogs spinning, along with the rest of the production team. She also keeps all our chairs spinning too, as you can most often find her stealing someone else’s desk for the day - a cat person if there ever was one!
Ello ello, Beth - what is it you do at Glowmade?
I'm an Ass Prod, or Associate Producer - but that's less fun to say. I help oversee the game’s development and make sure the things actually happen! (Currently specifically for the art team)
Now how would your parents describe your job?
I actually asked my mother, she said "I'd describe your role as one step away from being a producer with her very own ass." So there you have it.
So how did you get to this point in your career?
I studied Games Design & Development at the University of Greenwich. From there I worked in a Warhammer store for a while before joining Glowmade in QA initially, then moved up to Release Management and sidestepped across to Production. I'm making my way around it seems...
What’s your origin story? What made you want to pursue games?
Like most people here I grew up playing video games, but I don't think I ever considered it could be a career until waaay later. I was studying psychology with the Open University for a while, not really knowing what I wanted to do. I started looking online at games courses, and tried out 3D modelling in my spare time and eventually decided to study games in London!
Share something you love doing outside of everything video games.
I like to paint small things!
(We couldn’t wrangle out of her if this means she likes making paintings of things that are tiny or if she finds small objects to paint. Maybe if we take her to see Barbie for a fourth time, she’ll start talking…)
Who or what inspires you?
My family and my friends. Hopefully you know who you are!
Share something you appreciate about yourself.
I very much have Imposter Syndrome but I do appreciate that every role I've undertaken so far I have in fact Done The Thing, and I care about what I do and I like to think that comes across.
What's the best thing about working at Glowmade?
The people <3
What do you want from your career?
I feel like there are so many things I still want to do and learn. Hopefully that will all lead to my eventual dream of making one of the many game ideas me and a very talented friend have.
What are your top tips for someone looking to get into games?
Make stuff! But make what you like and enjoy not just what you think others will want to see.
In your opinion, who is the keeper of the cutest Glowmade pet?
Can I say me, or…?
(Yes, absolutely, your cat is THE baby.)
What game do you wish you could’ve been part of developing?
A difficult question! I want to say something like the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, just because those games were my childhood and it would have been so fun to see the process being remade.
